SUPPORTING THE SCHOOL

Ways to help the School
“It all depends on the support you give”

There is a variety of ways in which you can support the School including:

Careers Department

If you can offer a work experience placement or spare some time to speak to pupils about your experiences in the workplace, please contact the Careers Secretary, Mrs Tessa Stewart, by email at tessa.stewart@cvms.rbkc.sch.uk or telephone 020 7603 8478.

Volunteering

The Vaughan needs volunteers to help:

  • support pupils’ learning
  • help with extra-curricular activities, for example helping with training or refreshments for sports events
  • provide additional administrative support for voluntary and community activities organised by the School
  • at one of the fundraising events held throughout the school year.

If you can offer your time please contact the Bursar, Steven Keogh,by email at steven.keogh@cvms.rbkc.sch.uk or telephone 020 7603 8478.

Gift Aid & Tax-effective giving

It is easier now than ever before to make a tax-efficient gift to the School. A gift of any size to the Vaughan can be Gift-Aided, enabling us to claim back the basic rate of tax. If you are a higher rate tax payer, you may be able to claim further tax relief from HM Customs & Revenue. For further information and a Gift Aid Declaration please click the link below:

Giving goods or services

The Vaughan can greatly benefit from the donation of many goods and services or discounts on new purchases. Many goods can be used directly, for example a recent donation by Nu-Line Builders’ Merchants of a set of exam desks and chairs. Others are put into the School’s Annual Auction of Promises which raises substantial sums each year.

Giving shares

The School can benefit from the donation of company shares from people wishing to transfer either a portion of their share portfolio to charity (i.e. the Vaughan), for which they may benefit from tax relief (both capital gains tax and income tax). You are strongly advised to seek independent financial advice when donating shares to ensure maximum tax benefits.

For further information please contact the Bursar, Steven Keogh at steven.keogh@cvms.rbkc.sch.uk or telephone 020 7603 8478.

Willing the Future - Legacies

All of us have causes dear to our hearts and for many of us, our school is especially so. The support of parents, former pupils and other well-wishers has enabled the School to increase the opportunities it provides to pupils. Leaving a bequest to the School provides a lasting memorial of your generosity and ensures that your support continues into the future. Such donations are exempt from Inheritance Tax (40% at April 2004).

Match Funding

Your company may match contributions made by you to the School up to a certain amount (depending on company policy). This is because the School has Charitable Status.

Examples:

Mr F applied to his employer, British Airways, for match funding for a fund-raising event organised with his help at the School.

Mr R applied to his company to match fund the contributions he had made to the School Fund.

Payroll Giving

Payroll Giving is a simple, tax-free way to give direct from your pay. Payroll Giving donations are deducted before tax so each £1.00 you give will only cost you 78p, and if you're a higher rate tax payer it will only cost you 60p.

eBay & MissionFish

As an exempt charity the School has registered with MissionFish, an organisation that allows us to sell donations-in-kind made to the School on eBay without paying fees.

Friends of the Vaughan who wish to sell items on eBay can also take advantage by listing items on eBay and donating a percentage (10%-100%) of the proceeds to share with the School. On top of this MissionFish also allows you to Gift Aid the donation making it tax efficient.

How Does It Work?

MissionFish, a charity organisation specialising in online charitable auctions, developed eBay for Charity. Although items will be posted through MissionFish, they will appear with all other listings on eBay. eBay for Charity items are marked with a charity ribbon icon so buyers know they are supporting a good cause.

Buyers tend to trust charity sellers more and these items often sell for more than non-charity listings.

To start:
1. Visit www.MissionFish.org.uk
2. Get registered
3. Choose an item to sell
4. Write an item title and description
5. List your item through MissionFish and indicate that it will benefit t he Vaughan.
6. Complete your transaction- MissionFish collects your donation and passes it on to us.

OFSTED Report, September 2006
"The Vaughan flourishes because its strong and distinctive ethos attracts the assent and support of its Governors, Staff, pupils and parents." It is right that their efforts and commitment should be recognised in our most recent Inspection Report, which awards the School Grade One (Outstanding) in each of the main categories, and which acknowledges most warmly the success of this remarkable institution
