Specialist Status

Media Elements

The School’s specialism is in Mathematics and ICT, with a second specialism in Science.

The School aims to raise standards of achievement in each subject area for all pupils across the ability range. The specialist departments promote an educational culture that is technological, enterprising and vocational, developing innovative practice in the delivery of the subjects in question. Post-16 pupils are provided with the skills needed to progress into higher education, further training or employment according to their individual abilities, aptitudes and ambitions.

Many other benefits flow from our specialist status:

  • We support and develop teaching and learning in the specialist subjects in four of our local Catholic primary schools and in our local girls’ Catholic secondary school.
  • Identified wider community groups benefit from ICT training and from technical support to run specific charitable projects.
  • Parents of Vaughan pupils are offered the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge of Mathematics, ICT and Science in extra-curricular classes run by the School.
  • These extra-curricular classes are open to the wider community – to parents of pupils in partner schools, for example, or to others for whom a GCSE in Mathematics would help their career development.
  • The School has strong links with universities such as Imperial College, King’s College and York.
  • Imperial and King’s College undergraduates offer free tuition in Mathematics and Science on a weekly basis to A-Level pupils.
  • We enjoy close links with St Paul’s School, which runs Science master-classes and Chemistry laboratory sessions for a number of Lower Sixth pupils and helps to prepare pupils in their preparation for Oxbridge in a number of subjects including Medicine, Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
