Of its very nature the Sixth Form is the crowning achievement in a school such as the Vaughan.
Our Sixth Form has expanded steadily; it is now over 300 strong, and for many years has been enriched by the admission of a considerable proportion of girls. Pupils in the Vaughan’s Sixth Form can expect to achieve very high academic results and also participate in a rich and varied range of extra-curricular activities.
The vast majority of pupils proceed to Higher Education, many to the finest universities and the School sees a large number of students achieve admission to the universities of Oxford and Cambridge each year.
Alongside the many opportunities in the Sixth Form there are also responsibilities. Members of the Sixth Form have a responsibility of vital importance to discharge within the School. Like their parents and teachers, they teach by example; younger boys have the right to expect the very best example from these senior members of the School. Many members of the Upper and Lower Sixth are appointed senior or assistant prefects; we believe that this will help them to develop qualities of leadership and responsibility. Besides helping younger boys with special educational needs, they may be involved in the running of School clubs and undertaking work-experience and community service.
The School offers a small number of Instrumental Bursaries to pupils who have already been accepted into the Sixth Form. Successful applicants will be of Associated Board Grade VI standard, or higher, on an orchestral instrument. Application forms will be available at the School’s Sixth Form Open Evenings and selection will be by audition.
All pupils take Religious Education and Liberal Studies. Physical Education and Games are available, though not compulsory, in the Sixth Form. Opportunities are provided for Community Service and many other activities.
