Black History Month: Reclaiming Narratives

Published Monday 11 November 2024

Our Sixth Form pupils delivered an assembly to all years in the school about the Black history in Notting Hill, including the riots, the killing of Kelso Cochrane and the way that these tragedies are the reason that Claudia Jones started the first Carnival at the end of August in 1959. They reminded the pupils that ultimately, creativity and joy have won through, and that, as our pupils will one day be the history of this area, they should take this as their inspiration.

Taking this forwards, Angelo N, Lower Sixth is now establishing a group of students who are going to organise a cultural day of celebration in the Spring.
