Black Lives Matter: July Update from the Headmaster
In my last statement regarding the content of our History curriculum, I spoke about how we as a school have a responsibility to ensure that the community is updated as to how we intend to address both overt and systemic forms of discrimination.
I am pleased to say that this item was high on the agenda at the Directors’ July 2020 meeting, where the following decisions were made:
- All Directors will undertake unconscious bias training.
- We shall set up a working party whose brief is thoroughly to examine all aspects of equal opportunity in all areas of school life – i.e. the curriculum itself and what is taught, those who teach it and to those to whom it is taught, and the outcomes it produces – so that meaningful equalities targets can be established for the future.
- At my own suggestion, I shall be set a performance target for the academic year 2020-21, which is focussed on the advancement of equality in the school community.
