Jack Petchey "Speak Out" Challenge School Final
Published Monday 9 December 2024
Earlier this term the Fourth Form took part in the Jack Petchey "Speak Out" Challenge.
The competition, sponsored by the Jack Petchey Foundation and run by the Speakers Trust, works with schools and colleges across London and Essex to promote communication skills through expert led workshops and coaching. Every pupil in the Fourth Form was given the opportunity to ‘speak out’ on a topic they were passionate about.
Seven boys went on to present their speeches in a year assembly. They spoke with commitment and authority on a diverse range of topics: from the abolition of the death penalty to being social without social media. The judging panel (Ms O'Connell, Ms Vernon-Powell, Ms Mullen and Keeran S, Head Boy) were hugely impressed with the boys' efforts, praising both the content of their speeches and their impactful delivery. Choosing finalists was very difficult because of the high quality across the board but the panel selected two winners and one reserve who will progress to the regional final.
Many congratulations to Arthur G, Tiago A-M and Tom F and thank you to our judges.
