Livesaver Schools Programme: The London Ambulance Service

Published Friday 20 September 2024

On Tuesday, our Second Form pupils attended a Lifesaver Programme led by the London Ambulance Service (LAS). The programme aims to teach pupils the simple steps to follow when someone is in cardiac arrest and have the confidence to act quickly to help save lives.

The paramedics demonstrated how to perform CPR and how to use a defibrillator before our pupils put their knowledge into practice with resuscitation mannequins.

Samantha Palfreyman-Jones, Head of First Responders at LAS, commented: “We know that by teaching life-saving skills in schools and giving children the confidence to use a defibrillator, more lives will be saved in those crucial minutes before an ambulance arrives.”

Nasir F, Second Form, added: "We learned a lot in primary school about the first steps of how to prevent accidents but this has been the second step in how to actually help others when an accident has already happened. It's really good to know how to do everything you can before an ambulance comes."

Thank you to the LAS paramedics who provided this informative and interactive workshop. Our pupils really enjoyed the session and left feeling more informed and confident in how to save a life.
