Rae Hegarty - Class of 2014

His Majesty King Charles III's Sustainability Markets Initiative

I began my career in Audit at Bank of America, working across nearly every aspect of the bank, including markets, operations, technology and risk. The breadth of that experience gave me a solid understanding of how financial systems function, but it also made me aware of the scale of influence the industry holds. It led me to reflect on how I could be part of turning that influence into positive, real world change.

That shift began when I was asked to support emerging climate related work. At the time, sustainability was still in its early stages across the industry, particularly in terms of regulation and the implications for large banks and financial institutions. Yet the purpose behind it resonated immediately. I deepened my expertise by pursuing certifications in climate and sustainable finance, which helped me transition into more specialised roles.

In 2024, I stepped into my latest role with His Majesty King Charles III’s Sustainable Markets Initiative, the world’s leading private sector organisation for sustainable transition. His Majesty’s long standing leadership as a global voice and expert on climate and nature for over 50 years has made the work both deeply inspiring and meaningful.
