The island of Roume, the jewel of the municipality of Kassa, has just reached a decisive
milestone in the education and civic engagement of young people. Under the leadership of
Antoine W, a passionate former British scout, and in partnership with the National
Association of Scouts of Guinea (ANSG), the first scout units have been officially inaugurated.
A delegation of six ANSG members, led by Mr Camara Issiaga, spearheaded this
transformative mission.

Supported by Ms Sophie Hacker, patron of Roume Primary School and architect of its recent
renovation, this initiative aims to instil the values of Scouting: respect, discipline, solidarity
and community life. The objective? To strengthen the civic, community and environmental
education of children and adolescents on the island.

After intensive awareness-raising workshops with pupils, teachers and local authorities, three
units were created:
- A unit for the youngest: 24 children aged 6 to 11, ready to explore the basics of
scouting.
- Two units for teenagers: 32 young people aged 12 to 16, engaged in activities promoting
loyalty, peace and collective work.

These sessions have already sown the seeds of positive change, emphasising discipline and
solidarity.

The momentum doesn't stop there! Antoine Waels brought together local young people to found
a Roume Youth Unit, a unique platform for bringing together youth initiatives. On the agenda:
- Eco-responsible local tourism: Promoting the island's natural assets without
compromising them.
- Agricultural revival: Boosting food production for greater economic autonomy.

The mission fostered fruitful dialogue with community leaders, including the Youth Leader,
APEAE President Aboubacar Camara, and Imam Ibrahima Camara. These alliances promise
close collaboration between Scouts, schools and local organisations.

Led by a visionary young leader and the expertise of the ANSG, this wave of engagement
marks a turning point for Roume. Young people are organising, training and getting involved in
concrete social, economic and environmental progress. The island is entering an era of civic
dynamism!
