Dominic Ogbechie wins GOLD for Great Britain

Fifth Former Dominic Ogbechie jumped an incredible 2.16m to win Gold for Great Britain on the third day of the European Under-18 Championships in July in Gyor, Hungary.

Speaking in his first major interview, Dominic told reporters at the competition: ‘I’m just aiming for a medal, that’s my main aim. It’s my first GB competition so it would be nice to come away with a medal. Obviously a win would be good, but if I don’t get a win then a medal would settle. It is a bit of pressure but I feel like once Saturday comes I should be able to perform again.’

The event was live-streamed on the European Athletics website, with footage of Dominic awarded his Gold medal available to view online on the CVMS Sport and Cardinal Vaughan Twitter pages.

Dominic has had an astonishing year in athletics after achieving a World Record in the High Jump at the at the England Athletics National Championships in March, as well as jumping 7.53m in the Long Jump to beat the UK indoor Under-17 Long Jump record by 31cm.
