Franciscan Pilgrimage 2025

Published Friday 25 April 2025

During the half term, a group of pupils from the First to Lower Sixth Form flew to Assisi for the school's first Franciscan Pilgrimage, inspired by the Jubilee Year of Hope

Beginning in Assisi, pilgrims attended Mass at the iconic St Francis Basilica and visited sacred locations such as St Damiano and the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, gaining insight into the origins of the Franciscan order. They then travelled to Rome, where they explored religious and historical landmarks, including the Tomb of Blessed Carlo Acutis and the catacombs, where they celebrated Mass.

During the pilgrimage pupils were also immersed in cultural experiences, from gladiator training and Italian cuisine to playing football at sunset near the Colosseum. They also enjoyed participating in a cookery course where they made fresh pasta before travelling home.

Thank you to Mr Stubbings, Headmaster, Monsignor Reader, School Chaplain, Dr Lanigan, Deputy Head, Ms Drury, Assistant Head, and Mr Rumun, Teacher of History, for taking our pupils on this moving and memorable pilgrimage.
