Lower School Play 2025: Tuesday by Alison Carr
Published Friday 28 March 2025
This year's Lower School Play, directed by Ms Nutt, Teacher of English, and co-directed by Fourth Form pupil Kaelen O'S, was a despairing reflection of society's response to the 'other'. Tuesday by Alison Carr explores themes of prejudice, grief, relationships, and identity in a dystopian play set on an ordinary Tuesday afternoon.
After a tear in the sky reveals a portal to an alternative universe, pupils at Land End School are shocked to discover that they each have a doppelganger, a manifestation of their deepest insecurities, fears, and secrets. Through exploring these relationships and the relationship with oneself, the characters overcome their own fears and challenges to help their doppelgangers in their time of need.
The script is witty and, at times, thought-provoking. An emotive monologue from Fourth Form pupil, Abayomi P, is a powerful reminder that everyone faces adversity and hardship at times, but channelling this to show solidarity and to fight prejudice can make a meaningful difference in society.
Well done to our cast consisting of First to Fourth Form pupils, and thank you to Ms Nutt and Kaelan O'S, Directors, Mr Cardozo, Lighting Director, and Patrick D, for Stage Production, Mr Scott for helping and supporting, and Ms Drury for helping to organise.
