Pathways to Medicine, Psychology & Psychiatry

On Wednesday 18 October, we welcomed Dr David Okai, Old Vaughanian, to the school to speak with the Sixth Form about pathways to Medicine, Psychology, and Psychiatry.

Dr Okai is a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and spoke about the neuropsychiatry of the brain with a range of videos to illustrate this interesting phenomena, pathways into medical careers, and offered pupils advice on how to prepare for an application and pathways into psychology or psychiatry.

Paul B (Upper Sixth) commented: "Such captivating information from Dr Okai into the phenomena of neuropsychiatry has not only piqued my interest in other branches of psychology but also expanded my knowledge on the intricacies of the human brain. Through his engaging presentation exploring a variety of disorders and their subsequent effects, he has furthered my curiosity and zeal into the field of psychology."

Kornelia M (Upper Sixth) added: "I was astonished by the breadth that comes with neuropsychiatry and the complicity behind neurological disorders. The epitome of the discussion for me was fundamentally the statement that the alternation of simple bodily gestures, daily activities or even an attitudinal conversion can be the sub-lying identifications for a hidden neurological disorder. Ultimately, Dr Okai’s knowledge and integrity on this matter has intrigued me into further considering psychology for university."

Thank you to Ms Davies-Evitt, Head of Classics & Higher Education Co-ordinator, for organising the event.
