Second Form Create Solutions of the Future
Published Friday 27 June 2025
Earlier this month, a group of Second Form pupils visited Imperial College Makerspace to participate in the ProtoMaker Challenge.
Pupils were presented with a theme for 'solutions of the future' where they had to invent a solution for a problem we will likely face in the future. Research was conducted to investigate what problems are likely to occur, if they will get worse, and if there are any solutions already in the works.
They sketched and planned how to create a model of their inventions. They then made this model during the last two days of the four day challenge. Imperial College gave our pupils access to their workshops, resources and equipment, including hot glue guns, a hot wire cutter, box cutters, plasticine modelling, and 3D printing!
Our pupils’ inventions included a robotic shark that filtered waste out of the ocean; an island rehabilitation community for the homeless or those with addiction problems; and a spaceship civilisation with artificial gravity and drone protection from asteroids.
