The Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School was the highest-ranking Catholic comprehensive school in a table of A-Level results published on 15 August by The Times, compiled using data submitted by the 190 UK schools listed.
We are pleased to announce the university destinations for our Class of 2024. After years of hard work and dedication, our pupils have taken the next step in their academic journey at some of the most prestigious universities in the UK and beyond.
This year, 194 pupils applied for university (including the 2023 gap year pupils who applied in the 2024 cycle). Of these, 89% have been allocated their 'firm' choice, exceeding the national average. 130 pupils have secured places at Russell Group universities, including 12 pupils attaining entry to the universities of Oxford and Cambridge.
We are also proud to see many pupils continuing their studies in highly competitive courses with 63 pupils (33%) reading STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and 7 reading Medicine or Dentistry.
The universities with the most CVMS students this year were Exeter, Nottingham, and Leeds, with several pupils securing places at leading international universities, including Medicine at Universita Vita Salute San Raffaele (Italy) and University of Madrid (Spain), Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (Holland), Animation at Ecole de Creation Visuelle (Paris), and Chinese/International Politics through Chinese at Jinan University (China).
Headmaster, Paul Stubbings commented: "We are incredibly proud of our pupils and their university destinations. Their success is a testament to their hard work and the unwavering support from our dedicated staff. We are confident that they will thrive in their chosen fields of study and continue to make us proud as they embark on this exciting new chapter in their lives."
In addition to traditional university routes, we are also proud of those pupils who have chosen alternative pathways, such as degree apprenticeships or entering the workforce directly. Their choices reflect the diverse range of opportunities available and their determination to pursue their ambitions in various ways. We wish them all the very best in their future endeavours. We also look forward to hearing about their continued success and the positive impact they will undoubtedly make in their chosen fields.
