The Old Vaughanians Football Club (est. 1962)

The Old Vaughanians Football Club (OVFC) has been established for over 60 years and our links to the school remain as strong as ever, with over 50 past pupils of the school currently playing for the club.

We run 4 teams on Saturday afternoons in the Southern Amateur Football League, the most prestigious amateur football league in England and largest in Europe.

Our home pitches are the schools playing fields in Twickenham and at Acton Sports Club in East Acton.

We are very proud of our first-class facilities, both at Twickenham and our new clubhouse and flood lit 4G pitch in East Acton.

We host representative fixtures versus CVMS Senior Football in early September, the ex-CVMS Undergraduates in late December, as well as the wider alumni at our end of season Summer 6 Aside Tournament at Twickenham.

Alumni of the school (including current parents) are very welcome to enter a team in our Summer 6 Aside Tournament or attend our Tuesday evening training sessions during the football season at Acton Sports Club (East Acton Lane, W3 7HB).

OVFC Updates

Old Vaughanians Football Club have begun their 64th season in good shape. The club is still based at East Acton Lane, but the old bumpy pitch on a slope has long since been replaced by an artificial pitch. This now hosts two home fixtures on Saturdays, as well as training under floodlights during the week for both the Old Boys and the Cardinal Vaughan School Team. Last season we were delighted to officially open a new clubhouse and changing rooms adjacent to our pitch. We now have one of the best home venues in the league.

Old Vaughanians are not famed for their application to training, but sessions throughout the summer regularly attracted 50 players. Pleasingly, this included regular contingents from the school. OVFC recognises that its primary purpose is to offer former pupils the opportunity to continue to associate and play alongside schoolmates, and we are working hard to ensure a regular influx of recent leavers and those returning from university. In September we staged a representative game between the Old Boys and the School XI (pictured), and on 20 December students returning from university will be offered the same opportunity.

The club is now competing in a new, more challenging competition. The Amateur Football Combination has merged with the Southern Amateur League to form one of the largest football leagues in Europe, with 31 divisions and over 300 teams. OVFC’s First XI has been placed in the top Northern Division (see table), and if promotion is achieved this year we would progress into one of the four senior divisions. Our First XI have won promotion in three of the last five seasons and hope to continue this upward trend.

The club also runs three other teams who have enjoyed success in recent years. Whilst early season results in the new league have been mixed, win, lose or draw, we will continue to enjoy playing as Old Vaughanians.
